Rogue gender clinic continues to issue trans drugs to vulnerable children

An unlicensed gender clinic is still bypassing regulatory safeguards to provide puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to vulnerable children.

In an undercover investigation, The Telegraph found that GenderGP staff were prepared to prescribe the drugs online to journalists posing as children under the age of 16 or their parents.

The newspaper also reported that children and parents had been posting messages about GenderGP services on a chat forum hosted by the highly controversial trans lobby group Mermaids.

Concerns over practice

According to the newspaper, a GenderGP employee told investigators that their ’12-year-old son’ could be given puberty blockers without actually speaking to a doctor.

Another reporter, posing as a 15-year-old girl, was told by a GenderGP doctor: “At no point will counselling sessions be enforced. At no point will the medical consultations be, you know, required regularly. It’s only if there’s ever a concern.”

The doctor added she had “no concern” about whether the girl was making the right decision and that her first prescription for irreversible life-changing drugs was “on the horizon”.

Contrary to its own stated procedures, the clinic did not consult an adult relative of the ‘15-year-old girl’ over her desire to transition or about its decision to prescribe a course of sex-change hormones.

Protections ignored

GenderGP, which was founded by disgraced medic Helen Webberley, is exploiting a loophole that allows puberty blocking drugs to be dispensed to children in the UK if the prescription was written by a doctor in the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

Earlier this year, Baroness Nicholson asked the Health Secretary to reclassify the drugs being dispensed by the clinic as “controlled substances within Schedules 1-3 under the Misuse of Drugs Regulations”.

She explained that, should the drugs be reclassified, “no UK pharmacist would be able to lawfully dispense a prescription sourced in the current manner”.

Despite the High Court ruling in December protecting children from being given transgender drugs, GenderGP told The Daily Telegraph that it had prescribed ‘sex swap’ hormones to children as young as 12, and puberty blockers to children as young as 10.
